Questions

What people ask before they book

Can you open a safe without drilling it?

For most domestic and mid-security safes, yes. Non-destructive entry — picking or manipulating the lock — is always attempted first. High-security Eurograde safes, Chubb, and similar are more resistant to non-destructive opening and may require drilling. Tell us the make, model, and grade on the phone and we'll give you an honest assessment.

What information do I need before calling?

The make and model of the safe helps a lot — it's usually on a plate inside the door or on the body. If you don't know the brand, describe it: approximate size, whether it's key, digital, or dial, and whether it's wall-mounted, floor-standing, or a deposit safe. That's usually enough to give a realistic quote.

My digital safe has a dead battery — do I need a locksmith?

Not always. Most digital safes have an external battery terminal — usually a 9V battery terminal on the front panel where you can hold a battery against it to power the keypad temporarily. Try that first. If the keypad is genuinely faulty or you've forgotten the code, call us.

Will the safe still work after you've opened it?

If opened non-destructively, usually yes — the mechanism is intact and we can reset the combination or code. If drilling was necessary, the lock is likely damaged. We'll advise on repair or replacement options after opening.

Inherited a floor safe from a previous owner with no combination. John opened it without drilling, which I didn't think was possible, and reset the combination for us. Really impressed.

Digital keypad failed on our office safe. John diagnosed it on the phone — turned out we just needed to try the override key in the bottom panel, which we didn't know existed. Saved us a call-out. When the keypad did eventually need replacing, he did that too.
